George Washington? Really?

By W. Joe B.

In his speech yesterday (Sept. 19, 2011) President Obama invoked the words of George Washington to lend credibility to his proposed tax…uh…JOBS Bill. Yeah, that’s it. It’s a JOBS Bill! Of course, we all know that lie when we hear it.This is just a replay of the same old song, just a new verse.Does anyone remember the last time we were sold a bill that promised infrastructure rebuilding and shovel-ready jobs? That’s right! It was the whopper of a stimulus bill that went to … oh, that’s right … nobody is sure just exactly where the majority of the money went.Never mind. And do you remember the “shovel-ready jobs weren’t as shovel-ready as we thought” speech?

So, the Prez is out trying to sell his new Tax/Jobs Bill to the American people. The plea started out as, “we need to pass this bill so people can go to work.”But as more of the guts of the bill came to light … that’s the part he conveniently left out of his speech … and more people began to realize it meant more taxes, the hard-sell had to shift gears. Now “O” has to rationalize the tax increases. So, out come the lies.

First, we’re shelled with “the rich only pay 15% while the secretaries pay 30%” line of cr … well, let’s just say you see a lot of it in a cattle pen.The 15% rate he is alluding to is the Capital Gains Tax rate.“O” forgot to tell you that the money had already been taxed as income at 30-35%, then taxed again a year later. And unless Warren’s secretary is pulling down some real bucks, she doesn’t come near paying 30%.

And since that line has been flogged by those who know the truth, now he has the audacity to invoke the words of George Washington.Did George say that? Yes, but let’s compare some striking differences between George’s day and now.

In 2008, the Federal deficit was under $500 Billion (with a “B”) dollars. In Obama’s first year in office, after spending over twice what G.W. did in his first year and shattering the spending record of any other president in history, the deficit reached a hefty $1.4 Trillion (with a “T”) dollars.I don’t think George (Washington) had that type of record to have to explain.

Neither, did the first President have a congress making six-figure salaries and still voting themselves a raise every year while the unemployment rate soared.Want to lower the deficit?Forget the taxes; reduce the salaries of every member of Congress, the Senate, Federal Judiciary, President, Vice President, and all Cabinet members by 15% across the board. That will net a hefty sum!Let’s include all of the new Czars and their staff, too.By the way, do we really need all of those Czars and the bureaucracy that came with them? That would keep Social Security and Veterans Benefits solvent for quite some time to come.

No, Mr. President.I don’t think you can compare the times you’ve gotten us in with your failed economic policies to the times of George Washington, not by any stretch.Better go back to your speech writers and see if they can do better than that.

“we need to pass this bill so people can go to work" is a better line than "We need to pass this bill so we can read it". But apparently the effect was the same. They passed the bill, then they read it, then they realized "as more of the guts of the bill came to light" that perhaps they were not as shovel ready as they thought. Facts matter, and perhaps we should all slow down some so we can get the facts BEFORE we dump trillions of dollars into 'oh! my (academic and unsconstitutional) czar says this will solve it!'

Well written, and it certainly got me in the mood to say once again,

Remember in November 2012.
